Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

I was lamenting this last week, but Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago has, in fact, launched in my region (albeit a few days late)! I’ve only just started raising the greatest hero in all the land, but already, it’s giving me plenty of Tamagotchi flashbacks and the occasional trauma. Side story: I recently purchased a Gudetama Tamagotchi and, refreshingly, the end goal is to have Gudetama die so that it can turn into an egg-based dish. It certainly takes the pressure off when you’re meant to let your pet perish to unlock all of its “final forms”.

Anyway, back to Yolk Heroes - here’s hoping my little elf hero doesn’t die as easily as my Tamagotchi used to, because there’s still so much I need to know. What’s going to happen to the world if the Frog Lord succeeds? Why do faeries taste like chocolates? And, more importantly, who the heck is Level 99 Pam and why is her save game on my GameJoy?

I am at BIG in Bilbao this weekend, hoping to find some mobile games to play while at the event. It’s a conference that really showcases Spanish developers and Spanish culture, so there is often a big indie showcase. This showcase tends to lean towards PC games, but I am hoping to see a few gems!

Having spent a good amount of time with more cutesy, relaxing games recently, like Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago and A Little to the Left, I'm ready to mix things up a bit. And by that, I essentially mean I want action and violence. To satiate those potentially troublesome desires, I'm going to check out Shadow of the Depth, a top-down roguelike from ChillyRoom.

It takes place in a dark medieval fantasy world following a tragic event where evil beasties slaughtered a village's popular, and the whole place was set ablaze for good measure. That's a far cry away from organising paper clips and pencils, that's for sure. Gameplay-wise, the developers say it offers rhythmic combat mechanics, which hopefully means crunchy and satisfying monster slaying.

MarvelRivalsMarvelRivalsMarvelRivals- Okay I won’t do the Vampire Survivors joke again, but seriously this is one game that I’m majorly excited for that, sadly, isn’t on mobile. Still, while I’m jumping into it I’m also thinking about what I have played on mobile this year already, and I keep coming back to Balatro.

As a worthy GOTY contender, I’ve found it interesting to consider Balatro as the ultimate in pure, stripped back game design. And it always ticked me off that, as a result of it being so basic looking, so many people write off what really is an excellently designed game at its core. More to expound on in the future, I reckon…

Every weekend I try to make some serious plans, after all, I am a planner. However, this weekend I have decided to try something new and just let go of any plans my mind decides it’s a good idea to have. After the (very early) wedding planning steps and “having to do this and that” every weekend, I want this weekend to be all about myself.

I hope to just enjoy a little bit of “me” time, doing my Cookie Run: Kingdom dailies, trying to star up the new (and super good surprisingly) Epic cookie, Choco Drizzle Cookie, and spend an entire day planning a unique Kingdom design, since I am betting the next week (or the one after) we’re going to have the Kingdom of the Year event in CRK. I plan to rank among the top 100 this year (last year I only managed top 500), so it’s either go big or go home, right?

If anyone’s willing to see my final kingdom, I am more than happy to share my final results!

The plan for the weekend is to progress in King Arthur: Legends Rise. I started it a couple of days ago, but I've only managed to play through the tutorial so far. No other plans for the weekend; I'm going to nerd this one out.

This weekend is going to be a juggling act between Pokemon Go (Gigantamax Lapras Raids and a Research Day) vs playing some non-mobile games, I should think. Dragon Age: The Veilguard and SULFUR are calling out to me, and I've got a fistful of games I need to skim through for some site features for the next few weeks.

If I do find myself spending any time on mobile beyond that it'll be on Infinity Nikki, which is absolutely phenomenal, or on Pokemon TCG Pocket, as I'm dangerously close to finishing my Pokedex and getting the ellusive Mew Card.

I don't know what kind of mobile gaming I'll be doing that doesn't involve making a lot of decisions and then hoping those decisions pan out in good ways. I've never been the best at handling complex systems and keeping track of everything that's in place, but that can kind of work for the casual political and narrative games where you can take your time. I tend to turn away from these games because they end up feeling like work, but if I'm drawn into the intrigue, then how can that be bad?

Playing Capybara GO! Has made me think that maybe I should be looking into more story or RNG-heavy games. Ones where you just have to pick certain paths and hope good things happen or that you encounter something exciting that you can handle. If not, I'll keep trying to take control myself and see where that leads me.
