Edifier G5 BT Gaming Headset review - "Sound Modes make a Difference"

Edifier is known for its great speakers and headphones, so when I saw their Edifier G5BT, I had some expectations with the brand. The gaming headset can connect via Bluetooth, making it compatible with phones and mobile devices, so I dove right in.

When looking at the Edifier G5 BT, it does feel like the design was made with gamers in mind - the blue LED lights around the outside, the way the headset can bend to be stored away when not in use, and the metal detailing.

The entire thing does feel high quality. There is also a microphone you can pull out when gaming with friends to talk to them. Around the left earcup, you can find a bunch of buttons: power, volume, skip song, and a quick mute for your headset. On the right earcup, you can find a button to control the lighting effects and a button to change the mode of the headset.

Sound Modes

This headset has two modes: Music and Gaming. Now, I am someone who often has one set of headphones to both play games with and listen to music. I didn't think I would feel much of a difference or preference when using the Edifier G5 BT; however, these settings do feel different.

When you switch to Gaming mode, you can suddenly hear more of the softer, complex sounds of your game. It's almost a flatter sound, so you can hear smaller details and fully immerse in the game. On the other hand, in Music mode, the sound feels more dynamic and in line to highlight the music. You can really tell the difference between them, and it creates a pretty easy-to-adjust headset.

The Microphone

People have different preferences when it comes to microphones. If you don't talk to people often, having it sit inside the headset can be a good idea. I do feel the entire microphone, when out, feels very thin. There isn't any sort of sound dampening, as there is no pop filter. The sound quality is fine though, as long as you don't have too much going on.

Battery Life

With all wireless headsets, I often look at battery life. Maybe it's because I come from a time of not having to charge every single thing in my home or maybe it's just because I want to know how long I have. The battery in the Edifier G5 BT has about 40 hours without the lights on, when fully charged. With the lights on, however, it's going to set you back to 17 hours. This feels like a short amount of time to have in exchange for some blue lights - but if you like that aesthetic and are good at remembering to charge your device, maybe it's fine!
