If only all history was this interesting

Anyone who's played 2000s hack 'n slash Dante's Inferno can tell you that history and literature are not an artform easily translated to the medium of gaming. However, for everyone that does it bad, there's another that does it well; and Antarah: The Game may be one of the latter.
Now, first off, who is Antarah? Well, Antarah ibn Shaddad al-Absias he's formally known is best understood as being a little like King Arthur (emphasis on a little). A poet and knight, he is well-regarded in pre-Islamic folklore for the trials he undertook in order to marry his beloved, Abla.
Antarah is perhaps a little more on the Prince of Persia side of history, with the titular hero exploring wide open deserts and cities while duking it out with hordes of enemies. While the graphics may be relatively minimalist, it's still an impressive scale for something on mobile, although not nearly as detailed as something like Genshin.

Of course, looking at Antarah and despite the fact it's impressive for what looks like a solo project I can't help but feel it doesn't seem to show much in the way of variety. Most of the action takes place in a very, very orange desert from the trailers shown, and while the animation is nice there's not much indication of how the story will play out, something which is vital when you're dealing with historical drama of this kind.
You can find Antarah yourself on iOS to see if it's worth your time, and whether or not it pulls you into the world of pre-Islamic Arabian folklore.
