Sonic Rumble, Rovio's first foray into the Sonicverse, opens pre-registration for iOS and Android

- Sonic Rumble is also being developed by Rovio, of Angry Birds fame
The hotly-anticipated battle royale platformer Sonic Rumble has opened pre-registration for both Android, iOS and PC. Coming to us from Rovio, who were acquired by Sega, it's set to be the newest and possibly biggest foray thus far for the iconic blue hedgehog onto mobile.
A 32-player battle royale, Sonic Rumble sees you playing as recognisable faces from the influential Sega franchise. Whether that's the central trio of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, supporting cast members like Amy Rose and Rogue the Bat, or even fan favourites such as Big the Cat and Metal Sonic. Not to mention the moustached menace Ivo Robotnik (or Dr Eggman if you prefer) joining the race.
With pre-registration now open, we also know what the lineup of rewards for pre-reg milestones will be. The first, 200k, will net each player 5000 Rings, but further down the line things are a bit hazier (as in, we don't know how many pre-registrations are actually needed), but we do know that the ultimate reward is set to be an exclusive movie-themed Sonic skin.
I'm sure there are some of you out there lamenting Rovio being consigned to the Sonic mines, but I'd argue that for a studio which has long been known solely for Angry Birds, Sonic Rumble is a chance for them to show off what they can really do.
And yes, a battle royale is not particularly original, but the Fall Guys-esque gameplay and inclusion of the familiar Sonic tropes of speed and obstacle-laden levels seems to me a perfectly natural fit for the genre.
