Osmos is back on Google Play with a brand-new port after a brief absence
Rebuilt from the cellular level

- Osmos, the hit cell-absorbing puzzler , is back on Android
- It was pulled due to playability issues, as updates had been nigh impossible
- Now, developer Hemisphere Games has brought it back with a fresh port
Some of you may remember the hit physics-based ambient absorber (as we called it) Osmos. In this distinctive, award-winning puzzler your task was simple, absorb other micro-organisms and avoid being absorbed yourself! Simple and approachable, unfortunately, if you wanted to play it on Android you were out of luck, until now.
Years after its release back in 2010, Osmos is back on Google Play with a brand-new port! Available for modern OS on Android for the first time in years, you can experience the challenge of this micro-organic battle royale at its best.
In a blog post, developer Hemisphere Games explained that after they first produced Osmos for Android with the help of a company called Apportable, further updates to their hit game were stymied by the closure of the porting studio. But, after Osmos was unceremoniously pulled from the storefront due to being unplayable, as it only ran on now-defunct 32-bit Android systems, it's now returned with a rebuilt port!

If you aren't convinced by our glowing reviews of both the iOS and Android versions of Osmos, or the raft of awards it received, a look at the gameplay trailer above should convince you. There's a reason why Osmos' mechanics seem to have, ironically by Osmosis, spread to so many other releases, and it's almost a crime it debuted before the growth of social media, as I could very much see this being a hit on Tik-Tok.
I feel Osmos is an odd throwback that's well worth replaying. Something from a time when the sky was the limit for mobile, and a time that I think we're all hopeful will see a rerun.
Still, there are plenty of great ways to test your brain on mobile, even if they're not all as pretty as Osmos. Why not check out our list of the top 25 best puzzlers for iOS and Android if you don't believe me?
