Potion Punch Rivals preview - "Fun Cooking Competition"
  • A new entry in the classic, Diner Dash inspired series
  • Introduces a welcome PVP focus
  • Monetisation and more options have clearly been chief among the developer's focuses

I am a big fan of the Potion Punch series, with my all time favorite game being Potion Punch 2. These games feel like fantastisy cooking games, kind of like Diner Dash but much more modern. As someone who played the hell out of Diner Dash, I am always looking for familiar games that have that same sort of feel.

Potion Punch Rivals is a time management cooking game where you and another player are both serving at opposite counters at a diner. You will need to race the other player to get customer's orders in the middle area, fufill those orders before those customers get mad, and keep ontop of everything! There are individual customers that come specifically to your stand, but the ones in the middle are fair game, and you will need to have the most money at the end of the round to be declared the winner.

This game basically takes the same Diner Dash formula as the previous series entries and puts your skills to the test against another player. There is a power-up that makes you a little quicker, for a limited amount of time, and if you fufil more lengthy orders, you can gain a combo that increases your tip! The different characters featured in previous games can be unlocked and used, as well as new characters that I've not seen before.

In the demo, you can clearly see battle passes are going to be implemented, along with premium currency to unlock characters andskills that can help you, though these skills weren't quite in Potion Punch Rivals yet.

There also clearly will be a way to upgrade your kitchen, so it will be interesting to see if you are placed against someone who has the same kitchen as you or if you will need to upgrade your way to victory at the start. I quite like the idea of the game becoming competitive, maybe because I am a competitive person and know I can beat out whoever comes my way!

Potion Punch Rivals itself is planned to release sometime next year, on Steam, iOS and Android.
