YOUR HOUSE preview - "Mysterious, teenage angst"

YOUR HOUSE preview - "Mysterious, teenage angst"
  • Prequel to the game UNMEMORY
  • Well written mystery game
  • Unique feel and art style

YOUR HOUSE is the prequel to UNMEMORY, with both being narrative adventures games that feel more like interactive storybooks and each featuring a lot of puzzles and fine details. I got a chance to play a demo of YOUR HOUSE at Indie Dev Day, where I was thrilled and excited to see this mystery game delved deeper in.

YOUR HOUSE puts you directly into the mind of a young girl, who's troubled. She's been through a bunch of different boarding schools and is continuing to be expelled. And, today is her birthday, despite nobody even noticing. After another not-so-fantastic event resulting in a head injury, she's thinking of what to do with her life now that she's 18.

Inside Debbie's house in YOUR HOUSE

That's when she discovers a letter that will change her life. A key, a new beginning, a post card, as long as she can get to it. YOUR HOUSE takes you on a whirlwind adventure where you are tapping on words within the screen and solving puzzles. There is a good mix of visuals to break up the walls of text often these visuals hold clues that you need to pick up on. Like most point and click adventure games, you even have an inventory of items collected from your room.

I really enjoyed the point of view and style of a lot of these images and little cut scenes. They felt like they added to the story and complemented the writing. The puzzles themselves were also challenging, requiring you to pick up on what you've seen and the hint system starts off with a vague hint, but gets more specific the more you need to use in each area, which is a good balance of telling the reader and helping the reader.

During my short time with YOUR HOUSE, I quite enjoyed the teaser. There was a lot of interesting moments and some of the puzzles really had me guessing! I am excited to see beyond the second chapter and look forward to the game's release.
